Sarah Maffei, MA, LPC

Sarah Maffei is a Licensed Professional Counselor who employs a person-centered approach in her work. Her main focus in counseling is to provide a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients by demonstrating empathy, warmth, and acceptance; all of which she believes are crucial components of the therapeutic process. She believes all human beings are capable of reaching their full potential, and her approach is flexible so the needs of each individual and their relationships can be met.

Sara believes that because all people are involved in relationships in daily life, whether it is with our family, friends, or co-workers, it is imperative that an emphasis be placed on the interpersonal processes and how they contribute to happiness as well as pain.

She enjoys working with an array of identified problem areas including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, substance abuse, life transitions, issues related to the family of origin, and interpersonal difficulties. Further, she is open to exploring other difficult areas that are perhaps unidentified at the beginning of therapy. She is passionate about working collaboratively with her clients by providing support, yet encouraging independence as they make and sustain changes that lead to healthy relationships and an improved quality of life.

Sarah earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and then completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

She has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including a group home, and a community mental health agency where she facilitated group therapy with a population of adults diagnosed with mental health disorders. Additionally, she completed an internship in a university counseling center providing individual counseling to students spanning a mixture of problem areas. Upon completion of her Master’s degree, she returned to Pittsburgh where she began working as a therapist in a Drug and Alcohol agency where she facilitated individual, group, and multi-family therapy with adults struggling with issues related to substance abuse and other related problem areas.

Client Testimonials

“I actually did refer a friend to Sarah and that worked out well. I also really appreciate that Sarah is open to me bringing my baby to our session when I don’t have childcare.”

“Sarah is wonderful and has helped me immensely over the past year. I honestly credit most of my recovery to her skill, insight and patience.”

“I’ve had two therapists through Relationship Resolutions. The first left for another position but was absolutely wonderful. I left therapy for a little while but when I came back was matched with Sarah who was exactly the kind of therapist I didn't even know I needed. She is an incredibly talented, caring person and I benefited from our sessions immensely.”

“If I hadn’t moved from Pittsburgh to DC, I would absolutely continue seeing her.”
